Research That Matters Podcast:
Making research more accessible to the nonprofit sector
Making research more accessible to the nonprofit sector
Welcome to Research That Matters Podcast, where we are making research more accessible to the nonprofit sector.
Hosted by the Journal of Nonprofit Innovation, this podcast is built around the latest research on key topics shaping nonprofit work today. Each episode synthesizes recent studies and emerging findings, highlighting what the research shows, why it’s relevant, and how it can be used in practice. Our goal is to bring important research greater visibility and connect it to the nonprofit leaders, practitioners, and changemakers who can apply it to inform decisions and create meaningful, positive change.
Our current podcast episodes are developed from research conducted by our team, who review and synthesize the latest studies by topic relevant to the nonprofit sector. To make this research easier to digest and more widely accessible, we produce episodes using a combination of live interviews and AI-assisted summaries created with NotebookLM. As we move into 2026, episodes may feature either format—or a blend of both—as we continue learning what best supports understanding, engagement, and practical use of research.
We are always looking for new voices to help surface and share research that matters. If you are a researcher, nonprofit leader, practitioner, or changemaker working at the intersection of evidence and practice, we’d love to hear from you. Our podcast features a mix of research-based topic episodes and live conversations, and we welcome contributors who are interested in helping make research more accessible and useful to the nonprofit sector. If you’re interested in participating, here’s how to get involved:
Step 1
Get published in JoNI
To be considered for the podcast, your work must first be published in the Journal of Nonprofit Innovation. If you haven’t submitted yet, you can read more about how to submit in the link below
Step 2
Submit Inquiry Request
Once your article is published, fill out our short interest form to tell us why you'd be a great podcast guest. You can find the link to the form below.
Step 3
Be on our Podcast
If selected, we’ll reach out to schedule a recording time that works for you. Before going live, we’ll host a short pre-interview to help you prepare and ensure a great conversation.
On the podcast, we’ll guide our conversation through four key categories: Background & Research, Practice on the Ground, Bridging Research and Practice, and Impact and Vision. These questions are designed to explore your journey, highlight your work, and uncover how research and practice come together to make a difference.
Our focus areas are not exclusive and we welcome submissions outside of them anytime throughout the year.
